Bochnia / tarnów

In Bochnia, there is the oldest Polish salt mine, which after almost eight centuries of use enjoys underground caves carved in salt rock and original salt sculptures. The exploration of the Bochnia Mine has been an extraordinary adventure lately. The salt dungeons have become even more interesting thanks to the multimedia exhibition to enable a time travel. This journey begins in the reign of Bolesław Wstydliwy and the Duchess Kinga, thanks to which, according to legend, salt was sent to Polish lands.

“Osada VI Oraczy” is an interesting reconstruction of a medieval village, which is characteristic for the settlement Małopolska from the middle of the 13th century. It is an archaeological open-air museum where you can not only see what medieval buildings looked like, but also what life and work looked like in them. Brauer, Weber, potter, co-driver and herbalists work daily in the village. The archaeological park is a seasonal object, open from 1 April to 30 September.

What attracts Nowy Wisnicz for tourists is undoubtedly an impressive castle situated on a wooded hill overlooking the city. This Baroque – Renaissance residence of the Małopolska magnate families – Kmita and Lubomirski – impresses with their beautiful architecture and excellent maintenance. The castle of Wiśnicz was built in the 14th century as a defensive residence of the Kmita family. It has been restored and is a great track of our history.

Tarnowski Ratusz is a jewel of the Renaissance in Poland, one of the most beautiful town halls in the country, a real decoration of the market in Tarnów. The centrally located Town Hall on the market square was originally Gothic and dates from the 14th century. Many times it was rebuilt until it received its present renaissance features. In the interior there is a branch office of the Regional Museum in Tarnów.

One of the sights in Tarnów is the Ethnographic Museum. It is located in the city center in a historic manor house from the 18th century. The neglected mansion was renovated in the 80s and served as the seat of the Ethnographic Museum. There is a permanent exhibition in the museum showing the culture and history of the Roma who lived in the areas of Tarnów and are still associated with this city.

Mikwe in Tarnów used to be just as important a place for Jews as the synagogue. It was used to cleanse the body and equipment. As a bath, it was filled with rainwater or water. However, to purify oneself religiously, it always had to be in this water, although there was some rain from the sky. It is an extraordinary place, which creates the history of Tarnów and the history of the Jews from these regions.
